Paddling in a glacier lake is an exclusive experience, the highlight is to paddle close up to the glacier.
This is not a daily trip but arranged if we have 2 or more participants (or payment for minimum 2 pax). Maximum capacity is 14 pax, so this is our most exclusive trip. In booking process, it must be agreed where to meet and if you want to bring your own lunch or not, let us know if you don't have your own car. After safety introduction and adjustment of equipment, we are ready to start the paddle tour. The kayak tour is about 3 km in distance one direction, in total 6 km, we paddle along shore on our way to the glacier. At a beach nearby the glacier we park the kayaks and eat lunch (bring your own lunch, or pre order) while we take a close look on the glacier. This is a “young” glacier arm of Folgefonna; the glacier is about 5000 years old, but 1500 years ago, the ice was not present in this valley, guide will tell you more.. After lunch we go back to the kayak and paddle back to start point. Normal duration for this trip is 6 hour (start and stop in Rosendal).
5-6 hours including travel time to/from Rosendal to the lake. The total paddle tour is about 5-6 km.
We recommend bringing wool underwear, sunglasses and sun lotion. All your clothing can be wet if you are unlucky and turn over; please bring extra set of clothing so you can change after the trip if needed. You should also bring a towel. No warm shower is available.
We provide all necessary kayaking equipment including dry suits and water proof paddle shoes.
All people above 15 years old and in normal conditions. The trip will be adjusted for the whole group. Normally maximum 4 persons pr. guide.
Outside tourist office in Rosendal 10:30 (if coming with express boat from Bergen, let us know, we will wait for you). After an introduction and check of equipment we drive together from Rosendal to the start point for the paddle tour. Address is: Skålafjæro 17, 5470 Rosendal.
Rain is not an issue, we are wearing dry suits, and colors are even nicer in rain! Wind is the critical thing, if wind is stronger than 10 m/s we often need to cancel, but depend on wind direction. A good option then would be to join the Blue Ice Hike in Juklavass glacier instead, we refund the price diffrence of course.
For VIP groups this tour is perfect. Here you get world class nature experience, and can be 100% alone as a group. We also offer bicycling after the tour back to Rosendal.
Get in touch and let us tailor made your hike.
In Rosendal there are many options, check the great tourist office web and find your best option. Let us know if you need help.
Wind and waves on the fjord can be a restriction for the Fjord and Glacier Kayak tour. Rain is not a problem. The tour route can be adjusted because of conditions. We will let you know as soon as possible if we need to cancel due to weather conditions. For Glacier Kayak the limit regards to wind is about 10m/s, but wind direction is a factor also.
We try to be as flexible as we can. For the daily hikes "Blue Ice Hike" and "Panorama Glacier Hike" you can cancel until 24 hours before the hike and get 100% refund or change the tour date. Cancellation or no show later than 24 hours before hike does not give a right to a any refund. For all other hikes/tours we offer, the cancellation deadline of 5 days before the tour date applies unless otherwise agreed. That means, if you can cancel 5 days before the hike you will get a full refund. If you cancel later than this but before 24 hours before the hike, there is a 50% refund, if canceled less than 24 hours before the trip, there is no refund. If Folgefonni Breførarlag has to cancel the trip due to weather / conditions, you will get 100% refund.
Normally you meet the guides outside the tourist office in Rosendal 10:30. After an introduction and check of equipment you drive after the guide to the start point for the paddle tour. We also offer pick up service, let us know if you need this.
