Ice depth Folgefonna

University of Bergen have several research project ongoing at Folgefonna. Of of them has extra high interest, they have measured ice thickness in the ski center area.

Ice depth Ski Center

Since year 2001 the Folgefonna has been retreating. This means the volume of the glacier is decreasing. It's very visible in the different ice falls, also in the ice fall where Visitfonna has a ski lift. Knowledge about ice depth is important to plan how to maintain ski lift, predict risks with glacier lakes etc.
